RT Dissertation/Thesis T1 A particle tracking model to analyze transport in ocean T2 Un modelo de seguimiento de partículas para analizar el transporte en el océano A1 Rodriguez Diaz, Laura K1 2510 Oceanografía AB The continuous displacement of water not only allows adjustment of the temperature but distributes particles as nutrients, plankton in the ocean and seas, allowing the development and transfer of larvae. This study aims to simulate Lagrangian trajectories for different numbers of particles or "larvae" rather passive (setting a depth of dispersion) or active (allowing vertical movement of the particles). It also seeks to analyze the dispersion of the particles by using different databases (SODA,GLORYS,HYCOM).The project will consist of the following stages:1. Improvement and development of existing software to work with the database SODA. 2. Development of programs to simulate the dispersion of particles with Lagrangian trajectories using SODA data. 3. The first part of the study will focus on the North Atlantic area to simulate thetrajectories of particles that are able to cross it. 4. In a second phase, It pretend simulate cases which involve larval own characteristics, to verify if the developed model reproduces its behavior. Information such as the time and place of spawning larvae and larval duration (planktonic larvae duration [PLD]) will be used. The PLD is a key factor because, once the larval stage finished, the larvae acquire own movement and not follow ocean currents.5. In a third phase, the lagrangian model will be applied to the simulation of the dispersion of microplastics in the ocean currents.
