This factor enhances the risk and vulnerability of native freshwater fishes, in particular migratory species, which are among the most threatened species in Portugal.Despite the increasing vulnerability of the Iberian fish species, scientific studies of a behavioral nature with these fish species are unknown, allowing the development of a system that works effectively as a behavioral barrier for fish.It is known the repulsive effect that some induced primary stimuli, such as sound or light, provoke in fish. The development of Behavioral Barriers for Fish intends to use these effects to promote selective behavioral responses, in the sense of their protection, especially the species potamódromas, either reducing, by dissuasive effect, their mortality in the hydraulic structures of the dams, or as increasing the effectiveness of the passages for fish. The innovative researches developed within the present thesis aim to establish a relationship between the sensorial sensitivities of the three Iberian target species and the frequencies tested, either by acoustic stimuli or by luminous stimuli. In laboratory conditions, the effects of two stroboscopic light frequencies were tested: 350 flashes / minute and 600 flashes / minute and two acoustic frequencies: 140Hz and Sweep-up: <2000Hz in the species: Salmo trutta, Pseudochondrostoma duriense and Luciobarbus bocagei. In a complementary way it’s evaluated the simultaneous effect of the various stimulis. The behavioral assessment of the target species referred above will be complemented with work in the field of Ecology of fish populations, including the behavioral analysis of fish breeding migratory flows (habitat preferences and spawning grounds), in heavily modified environments by the construction of transverse structures in water courses (eg dams) YR 2021 FD 2021-10-28 LK http://hdl.handle.net/11093/2621 UL http://hdl.handle.net/11093/2621 LA por DS Investigo RD 10-dic-2023
